• Are Asheville police 'relocating' from their Haywood Road building? (citizen-times.com) — Asheville police plan to add a new office and resource center at Tanger Outlets on Brevard Road while keeping a limited presence at the current Haywood Road site beside the West Asheville library and fire station. City Council delayed ratifying the 10-year lease to allow more outreach to West Asheville residents and businesses, with a vote now expected in January.
   

• Country Music's Asheville Origins (ourstate.com) — Nearly a century ago, Asheville’s George Vanderbilt Hotel rooftop hosted groundbreaking recording sessions that captured some of the first country and old-time music in North Carolina. This feature traces how those 1925 Asheville sessions, long overshadowed by Bristol, helped shape country music and inspired a recent centennial celebration and reissue of the original recordings.
   

• North Carolina leaders speak on Senate's passage of the Lumbee Fairness Act, defense bill (wlos.com) — Asheville readers are hearing big news from Raleigh and Washington: the U.S. Senate has passed a defense bill that finally grants full federal recognition to North Carolina’s Lumbee Tribe, with backing from both Gov. Josh Stein and several members of Congress. The move, announced from Asheville, is celebrated by supporters but opposed by Rep. Chuck Edwards and Eastern Band of Cherokee leaders, who argue the process was improperly bypassed.
