- A drug dealer was found with more than two dozen guns in his possession near Haywood Road last Thursday, according to the Asheville Police Department. APD teamed up with Alcohol Law Enforcement partners to arrest David Edward Peskin, 54, after officers report they found him with a gun on Thursday at around 12 p.m. Police say Peskin was charged with over 10 crimes, including trafficking in cocaine by possession, possession of a firearm by a felon, and more. - Asheville Humane Society is seeking foster homes for cats, dogs, and other small animals in need. Fosters must be at least 18 years old, have a reliable vehicle, live within a 30-mile radius if fostering infant or fragile animals, and within a 45-mile radius if fostering an adult animal. The organization provides all necessary supplies and food. Anyone interested in becoming a foster parent for an animal can reach out to Asheville Humane at the link. (WLOS)
- The inaugural AVLFest is set to come to Asheville from Thursday, Aug. 3 to Sunday, Aug. 6. Presented by Wicked Weed Brewing and Worthwhile Sounds, the fest will feature over 150 musical acts in over 20 venues. AVLFest offers an insight into the community's diverse music and arts scene, including local and national artists from bluegrass, Americana, electronica, hip-hop, and rock. - Asheville Police Department and Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office are teaming up for downtown patrols, according to a news release from the city of Asheville. The effort, started on Apr. 14, comes after concerns were shared about downtown safety by residents and business owners. (Citizen Times)
- The Asheville Art Museum is seeking $75,000 in donations for its annual fund. The Annual Fund provides support to operations and programs, including summer camps, lectures, exhibitions, community days, and keeping doors open to the public year-round.
