Here are the top three stories in Asheville today:
- The Asheville Police are searching for a man who allegedly used over a dozen counterfeit $100 bills in an Asheville store. The business, located on Hendersonville Road, told police that the suspect has been using the counterfeit bills over the past three months. Police released a photo of the suspect that was recently captured by a surveillance camera. Police ask those with information about the identity of the person to contact the Asheville Police Department at (828) 252-1110. (WSPA 7News)
- A passenger train line connecting Asheville to Salisbury is about seven to 10 years away, according to the Carolina Association for Passenger Trains. The new western line would make three round trips a day to stops including Asheville, Black Mountain, Old Fort, Marion, Hickory, Conover, Statesville, and Salisbury. (Morganton News Herald)
- RentCafe, one of the biggest online rental listing services in the nation, has a new report that lists Asheville as one of the most competitive rental markets in 2023. Asheville was ranked No. 4. The report said the number of units under construction has not increased in Asheville from 2022-2023, causing an increase in demand and a lack of affordable housing. (WLOS)
