- An independent report on Asheville's water system, which was commissioned by the city after the 2022 water outage, was released. The report found deficiencies in the city’s water system, the city’s on-the-ground response to the outage, and its ability to communicate internally and with the public about the outage. On Tuesday night, Jun. 13, the report will be presented to the Asheville City Council. (WLOS)
- The Asheville Police Department arrested 62-year-old Larry Vernon Minish for allegedly stabbing two people in downtown Asheville on Jun. 8. According to police, at around 12:02 a.m., two victims were found on the 440 block of Haywood Road. One had been stabbed seven times in the neck and face. Minish faces multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and possession of drug paraphernalia. (WSPA)
- On Saturday night, Jun. 10, Asheville police officers were forced to put down a juvenile bear after it was hit by a vehicle along I-240 in Asheville. Jody Williams, with Help Asheville Bears (HAB), said, "We need a badly needed bear rehab." Williams said with the growing bear population, these types of situations are increasing in the Asheville area. (WLOS)

- The City of Asheville and the City of Raleigh might establish Civilian Traffic Investigators, who will be trained to handle minor traffic crashes that do not involve injuries. The civilians would help relieve departments as they struggle with staffing shortages. The state Senate recently passed House Bill 140, which would create this program, and the legislation could be on the governor's desk this week. - Asheville's Shiloh African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places! On Jun. 10, a historical marker was unveiled in the form of a plaque outside the church. (WLOS)
