- A recent study on home ownership across the United States has found that seniors are holding onto their homes and staying put in one place for longer than they have in the past. In Asheville, 30.7 percent of seniors moved into their homes 30 or more years ago, and 38 percent of homeowners across the country have lived where they do now for more than a decade. Seniors also accounted for 40.3 percent of owner-occupied households in the metro area. (Mountain Xpress)
- The Buncombe County's Board of Education's next regular session meeting is slated for Jun. 1 at 5:30 p.m., in the Minitorium at 175 Bingham Road. Members of the public are invited to give comment in person and will need to arrive at Entrance "B," with doors opening at 4:45 p.m. Speakers will be recognized in the order that they have registered to give comment and should arrive no later than 5:15 p.m. in order to participate. - Mission Health is hosting a public meeting to discuss the establishment of a freestanding emergency department in the West Asheville and Candler communities. The proposed facility would provide emergency, laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy services. The project, estimated to cost $29 million, is scheduled for completion in July 2025. Additionally, a public hearing is planned for Jun. 19, and written comments can be submitted until May 31 to the Healthcare Planning and Certificate of Need Section. (WLOS)
