- Matthew Early Beyer, 39, of Maggie Valley was arrested by Asheville police after violently assaulting four people on Sunday night, May 28. Officers said Beyer was acting aggressively and refused to leave a business located near the 90 block of Biltmore Avenue, then he began running up and down the street assaulting pedestrians in various ways including strangulation. Beyer was charged with assault inflicting serious injury, assault by strangulation, simple assault, assault on a government official, resist/delay/obstruct, and intoxicated and disruptive. (WSPA)
- On Jun. 1, Asheville Police arrested 30-year-old Noah Talon Erwin of Charlotte for allegedly setting several fires outside Asheville City Hall. Erwin was charged with burning a public building, injury to personal property, and second-degree trespassing. Crews were able to quickly put out the fires and no one was inside the building at the time of the incident. (WLOS)
- On Jun. 2, there was a hearing for 27-year-old Devon Whitmire, whose violent arrest on May 13 led to allegations that white Asheville officers used excessive force. Chief District Court Judge Calvin Hill denied both the prosecutor's request to raise Whitmire's $85,000 bond and Whitmire's attorney's request to reduce the bond. Prosecutors said they will ask a grand jury to indict Whitmire, which would move the case to the Superior Court. (Citizen Times)

- According to the United States Geological Survey, there was a 3.2 magnitude earthquake reported near Asheville early Sunday morning, Jun. 4. No damage was reported. (wxii12)
- To support the LGBTQ community, residents of Asheville's Five Points neighborhood wrote messages of love and acceptance in chalk outside the Greater Works Church on Saturday afternoon, Jun. 3, as the church held an event called "Rally for the Family." Micah Nielsen, a neighborhood resident, said the goal of the chalk messages and artwork was to send a message of tolerance to church leadership. (WLOS)
