- Durham's annual Festival for the Eno was reprised this year, featuring live music, crafts, and tons of food. Festival manager Greg Bell went as far as to say, "This is the Triangle's Fourth of July Celebration." The Eno River is named for the Eno native people who lived along its banks and is a tributary of the Neuse River, and the Festival for the Eno aims to celebrate not just the history and ecology of the Eno River but also the historic and natural character of the Eno River State Park. (ABC 11)
- July is opening up with the Fourth and a helping of extreme weather conditions - a heat advisory was in effect throughout central and eastern North Carolina on Monday, Jul. 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with "feels-like" temperatures ranging between 103 and 109 degrees Fahrenheit. Sunday, Jul. 2's high of 96 marks three consecutive days with temperatures in the 90 degrees Fahrenheit and above range - conditions that are expected to continue through the week with elevated humidity to give it that extra muggy feel that Tarheels know and love. (ABC 11)
- Life sciences firm Fortrea, a newly independent former subsidiary of Burlington, NC-based life sciences and clinical research giant Labcorp, will be hosting its operations in the Research Triangle Park, and began being publicly traded on the Nasdaq Exchange Monday, Jul. 3. Fortrea, comprised of what was previously the CRO (Clinical Research Organization) portion of Labcorp, was approved for separation from Labcorp last summer, and as of Monday afternoon, it was valued at $3 billion.
