- After cleaning out his car, a North Carolina man found a Chuck E. Cheese coin from 2010, when he and his wife married. After finding the coin, Bobby Gary used it to scratch a Mega 7 lottery ticket from Harris Teeter in Durham. Using that coin on that ticket led Gary to win $2 million. (Subscription: News Observer)
- Durham Parks and Recreation has announced an upcoming back-to-school event to support the city's Latino community. Back to School With You will take place on Jul. 30 from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at Durham Central Park. This event will include free school supplies, entertainment, vision tests, and more. - After four years in prison for killing his father, Donald Fields Jr. went through a process of restorative justice, resolving his crime through community reconciliation and accountability over traditional punishment. This is the first time restorative justice has been used in a homicide case in North Carolina. This was the first time in four years that Don Jr.'s family had spoken with him and the first time they forgave him. (Indy Week)
