- A vigil was held on Tuesday night, Jun. 27, in honor of those whose lives have been lost to violent crime in Durham. The One Life Vigil, hosted by the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham, was held along Weaver Street and chosen for its closeness to the location of recent shootings that killed two people earlier in June. The coalition will be planning similar vigils in the future so that the community can get their voices heard. (CBS 17)
- The Taste of Soul food truck series launched in downtown Durham, featuring a vegan edition that offered a variety of vegan food options, beverages, and live music on Sunday, Jun. 25. Attendees expressed their enthusiasm for the event, describing it as the flagship festival that brings the community together with a bustling atmosphere and happiness. In addition to the recent event, the organizers have hosted other editions of the series and encourage interested individuals to visit their website for details on upcoming events. (ABC 11)
- Newly revealed warrants indicate that the fatal shooting of Hillside High School student Anthony Feaster in February resulted from a robbery. The warrants reveal that two groups of teenagers convened on the American Tobacco Trail, and shortly after their encounter, the shooting took place. According to the warrants, one of the involved teenagers informed Durham police that Feaster and another teen had collaborated in planning the robbery of the opposing group. The warrants also mention that the meeting between the teens was supposedly arranged to facilitate a gun sale, which tragically culminated in the shooting. As of now, no arrests or criminal charges have been made in connection with the case. (ABC 11)
