Commandos Destroy Weapons Caches, Detain Eight Insurgents in Baghlan-E-Jadid District

KUNDUZ PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Commandos from Afghan National Army 2nd Company, 5th Commando Kandak, and their Afghan National Army special forces partners, destroyed two caches of suspected improvised explosive device components and home-made explosives during a two-day village clearing operation in Baghlan-e-Jadid district, July 4.

Commandos also detained eight insurgents, including one Taliban leader, during the operation. The discovery of IED-making materials and HME caches confirmed suspicions that the Baghlan-e-Jadid district was being used as an enemy safe-haven for conducting criminal activity and staging attacks.

The operation succeeded in disrupting the insurgents’ freedom of movement and in expanding awareness of ongoing village stability operations in Kunduz province.

“The purpose of the operation is to bring peace and security to the villages,” said 5th Commando Kandak Capt. Ali Ahmad.

The commandos also took the opportunity to engage the local villagers and gain atmospherics. No civilian casualties or property damage was reported as a result of the operation.
