County officials speak out against basin transfer (clintonnc.com) — Fayetteville’s Public Works Commission is actively campaigning against a proposed water transfer that could move millions of gallons daily from the Cape Fear River basin, which supplies Fayetteville and Cumberland County. Sampson County officials warn the interbasin transfer could threaten agriculture, industry, and long-term water security, and residents are invited to submit comments to state regulators through April 1, 2026.

Fatal apartment fire reported on Yadkin Road in Fayetteville (fayobserver.com) — A deadly apartment fire on Yadkin Road in Fayetteville left one person dead and another hospitalized after firefighters pulled both from a burning unit Monday afternoon. Fayetteville police and fire officials are jointly investigating the cause while next of kin are notified and the second victim’s condition remains undisclosed.
   

3. Tank's 17-Year-Old Son Durrell Babbs Jr. Is Already Carving His Own Path In Music (blavity.com) — A Fayetteville-connected teen musician is stepping into the spotlight, inspired in part by his mom, Magic 106.9 radio personality Alysse Stewart. Seventeen-year-old Durrell Babbs Jr. has relaunched his holiday single “Christmas So Songs” and is starring in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever at Cape Fear Regional Theatre while preparing to pursue music and acting after graduation.
   

4. NC law enforcement under fire: Multiple officers injured in recent wave of violence (wral.com) — A Fayetteville woman has been charged and is being held on more than $100,000 bond after deputies say she lunged at Cumberland County officers with a knife during a November 911 call on Camden Road. Her case is part of a broader string of recent violent encounters involving law enforcement across North Carolina, including several officer-involved shootings and injuries.
