• Excitement, exploration fill the air at PSRC CTE Showcase (robesonian.com) — Lumberton-area eighth-graders recently explored hands-on career pathways at the PSRC CTE Showcase, led by enthusiastic high school students at the Southeastern NC Agricultural Events Center. With a new Robeson County Career and Technical Education Center and Planetarium opening in 2026, local families can expect expanded labs, credentials, and job-ready training that directly support students’ futures and the county’s economy.
   

• How the Thompson Institute Transformed Black Education & Lives In North Carolina (caro.news) — Lumberton’s historic Thompson Institute, founded in 1881 to educate Black students denied public schooling, helped shape teachers and community leaders across Robeson County and North Carolina. Its legacy continues today at W.H. Knuckles Elementary on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, now marked by a state highway historical sign honoring this local landmark of Black achievement.
   

• Woman shot, killed during theft of ambulance in Robeson Co. (abcnews4.com) — A 74-year-old woman from Red Springs was fatally shot after a stolen ambulance crashed into her car on Union Chapel Road, in the area between Lumberton and Pembroke. The suspect, a previously convicted felon, is accused of stealing the ambulance from Maxton, firing into occupied vehicles, and killing the woman, and is now being held without bond as her grieving family seeks justice.
