4 Mooresville Homes Struck By Lightning During String Of Storms
It took almost 40 firefighters an hour to put out the fire at the Waterlynn home after it was struck by lightning Monday morning.
MOORESVILLE, NC — Four Mooresville area homes were struck by lightning during a string of ferocious storms that moved through the piedmont of North Carolina Monday, with one of the strikes causing a working fire, Mooresville Fire-Rescue reported.
Three of the homes were struck by lightning before dawn during an early morning storm that moved through the area Aug. 31. The fourth was struck by lightning later in the day.
"The three early morning structure fire calls came in quick succession and only minutes apart at 5:15 a.m., 5:25 a.m., and 5:29 a.m. With resources responding to these multiple reported fires, automatic mutual aid with county volunteer fire departments helped provide the needed equipment and personnel at all three incidents," MFR said.

"Due to the concern of fire extending from one of the attached townhomes to adjacent homes, a Second Alarm was eventually requested for additional personnel," MFD said. "Nearly 40 firefighters from Mooresville, Shepherds Volunteer Fire Department, Mount Mourne Volunteer Fire Department, and South Iredell Volunteer Fire Department worked for nearly an hour until the fire was controlled."
Fire officials said an estimate of the damage was not immediately available.
