- A historical, small town Mooresville business is getting ready to celebrate its 123rd anniversary. Wow! According to the Statesville Record & Landmark,"D.E. Turner and Company Hardware, 111 N. Main Street, Mooresville, which has been serving Mooresville since 1899, will be celebrating 123 years of serving the community with a reception [today] from noon to 2 p.m. During the event, congratulate Jack Moore for his 76 years of working at the store and son Danny for his 35 years of working there. Visitors can also register for several door prizes, enjoy light refreshments and learn some history. All are invited to attend the milestone occasion." (Statesville Record & Landmark)
- It's that time of year! The East Coast is bracing for dangerous rip currents this weekend as Hurricane Earl churns near Bermuda. So if you are headed to the beach, take note. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "the entire East Coast could be affected by strong rip currents this weekend as Hurricane Earl threatens Bermuda, packing forceful winds of at least 90 mph and potentially strengthening to a Category 3 storm. And despite the storm being hundreds of miles offshore from the US, dangerous surf conditions and rip currents "are expected along the East Coast through the weekend," the National Weather Service said."
