COVID-19 Case Reported At Lake Norman Elementary In Mooresville
The Mooresville elementary school became the second in the county to report a COVID-19 case within the first three days of school.
MOORESVILLE, NC — Iredell County health officials are urging teachers, staff and students of Lake Norman Elementary to be aware of coronavirus symptoms after a person associated with the school tested positive for COVID-19.
Health officials did not say how the individual was associated with the school, but said they had not been on campus located at 255 Oak Tree Road in Mooresville since Aug. 14.
Symptoms, which may appear between two and 14 days, may include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea and a new loss of taste or smell.

"We know that COVID-19 can be spread by people who are not showing symptoms," county health officials said in a letter to school parents. "Employees and students should not come to school if they develop any of the above symptoms."
County health officials said that after contact tracing with the individual, it was determined that they were not in close contact with school employees or students.

News of the COVID-19 comes two days following a 14-day quarantine of the entire seventh grade of Third Creek Middle School in Statesville after someone associated with the school tested positive.
"As a result of the positive COVID-19 result and the Iredell Health Department requirement for close contacts to quarantine for 14 days, all 7th grade students and teachers at Third Creek Middle will begin the year with remote learning," ISS said.

All school families and staff members at Lake Norman Elementary have been notified, and the school received a deep cleaning Wednesday, according to Boen Nutting, spokesperson for Iredell-Statesville Schools. "Due to following established I-SS protocol, including proper social distancing and mask wearing, no student or adult has been deemed a 'close contact' to the individual that tested positive, and school will continue as scheduled tomorrow."
As of Tuesday afternoon, the number of total COVID-19 cases in Iredell County was 2,192, according to ICHD. The virus has led to at least 22 deaths of Iredell County residents and 16 remained hospitalized.
