COVID-19 In Iredell: Hospitalizations Remain Steady, 61 New Cases
At least 61 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Iredell County over the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to health officials.
IREDELL COUNTY, NC — The number of known coronavirus cases in Iredell County rose by 61 over the Labor Day holiday weekend to 2,724, according to data released Tuesday by county health officials. The biggest jump in confirmed cases occurred in the central region of the county, including Cleveland, Troutman and Statesville.
As of Sept. 8, at least 30 Iredell County residents had died from coronavirus-related illness.
Iredell County Health Department said that 24 county residents remained hospitalized for COVID-19 illness Tuesday — the same amount reported Friday, Sept. 4. Out of the total tally of known cases in the county, 361 residents remained isolated in their homes and an estimated 2,309 cases were assumed recovered.

North Carolina reported 178,635 confirmed coronavirus cases in the state Tuesday, which included 716 newly confirmed cases, according to data released by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases have been confirmed as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8:

North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 and 28678)
- 567 cases (up from 555 cases reported Sept. 4)
Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)
- 1,136 cases (up from 1,104 cases reported Sept. 4)
South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)
- 1,021 cases (up from 1,004 cases reported Sept. 4)
Friday, Iredell-Statesville Schools confirmed at least eight positive coronavirus cases associated with seven schools during the past week. The report follows that of a dozen cases reported in the school district during the first week of school.
Globally, more than 27 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 897,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Tuesday afternoon. In the United States, more than 6.3 million people have been infected and more than 189,000 people have died from COVID-19.
