Here are the top three stories in Mooresville today:
- Twenty-five-year-old Mooresville resident Dylan Joseph Powell died in an accident that occurred on Tuesday night, when his car ran off Faith Road and struck several trees, the Mooresville Police Department said in a news release. He was the only one in the car. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "based on evidence collected at the scene, it appears that speed and possible impairment contributed to the accident, the police department reported. The investigation is ongoing. Officers are examining evidence recovered at the scene and awaiting toxicology reports for the driver." (Mooresville Tribune)
- Have you seen 19-year-old Elizabeth Lynn Hamilton of Mooresville? According to a wsoctv.com article, she is missing and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help to find her. She was last seen leaving her mom’s house Wednesday night and reported missing on Thursday morning. The concern is high since Hamilton left her cellphone and wallet, which had her ID and debit cards. She also didn’t take her medications and other personal items, the sheriff said. Hamilton is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 125 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes." - In case you hadn't heard, former NASCAR driver and three-time US Auto Club national champion driver Bobby East, died earlier this month. He was reportedly stabbed to death at a Southern California gas station. He was 37. According to the Mooresville Tribune and AP article, the Westminster Police Department issued a statement identifying Robert John East of San Dimas as the person stabbed in the chest at a 76 gas station. The statement said the stabbing suspect, Trent William Millsap, was shot and killed in Anaheim as officers tried to arrest him. Police say they have no motive for the stabbing and the investigation into both deaths is ongoing. (Mooresville Tribune)
