  1. On a mission to address period poverty in the area, the Red Cart Project has brought utility carts filled with sanitary pads to 12 restrooms in the Mooresville Graded School District (MGSD) with the help of United Way of Iredell County, MGSD, Iredell- Statesville Schools, Mooresville Kindness Closet and Well-Equipped Period. According to the Statesville Record & Landmark, "one school nurse in MGSD, said that she sees more than 10 students each week who come to her office for menstrual products." All the products on the new carts will be free of charge to anyone who needs them to help lessen possible embarrassment, create a healthier community within the school and combat instructional time lapses due to missed classes. (Statesville Record & Landmark)
  2. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "Mooresville Police Department is currently preparing for relocation this fall to the new headquarters facility located at the intersection of Brawley School Road and U.S. 21. This new state-of-the-art 50,000 square-foot facility will provide additional communications, evidence, and holding cell space along with a designated K-9 building. The new headquarters will also feature an enhanced community room space that will allow for additional events and engagement without compromising department security. The project construction cost is $19,048,500 and work is scheduled to be completed in late summer 2022, with anticipated occupancy in September. (Mooresville Tribune)
  3. Highlighting part of the reason why the Mooresville Police Department is such an important part of the community, a recent Facebook post touted the praises of Pastor David Giles, MPD’s volunteer chaplain. According to the post, "Pastor Giles grew up in Concord, NC and has lived in Mooresville for almost 9 years. He and his wife, Stasia, have two boys. They are pastors at Abundant Life Foursquare Church in Mooresville. Pastor Giles has been involved in chaplaincy in several different fields for most of his 24 years in ministry. He currently volunteers with Stewart-Haas racing and MPD. At MPD, Pastor Giles serves as a community and staff resource whenever someone is in need. Working with MPD fulfills a life-long dream for Pastor Giles. “I’ve been interested in police work since I was a teenager,” Pastor Giles said. “At the Mooresville Police Department, I’ve been able to meet several officers and staff and participate in a few “ride-alongs.” Everyone I’ve met at the department has a real desire to benefit the community of Mooresville.”' (Mooresville Police Department via Facebook)
