Here are the top three stories in Mooresville today:

1. On Monday night, Mooresville town commissioners gave preliminary approval to the establishment of a Downtown Social District where alcoholic beverages, only in designated cups, could be consumed between noon and 10 p.m. seven days a week. Reportedly, nearly a dozen downtown restaurants, bars and business owners asked the board to establish the social district hoping it would boost business. The matter comes up for a final vote at a June 6 meeting. (Iredell Free News)
2. The town of Mooresville would like to congratulate Deborah Hockett, who will be retiring on June 1, as its Chief Financial Officer after a 19-year career with the town. In that time she received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, eleven years in a row. She also earned the GFOA’s Triple Crown Award for the past two years, she mentored her staff and encouraged them to pursue the degrees and certifications needed to further their own careers and cement their own successes. 3. According to court documents obtained by TMZ sports, Mooresville, NASCAR racer Kurt Busch and his wife, Ashley Busch, are getting a divorce. Reportedly in a statement obtained by TMZ, Kurt Busch said, “I am heartbroken to confirm that my wife Ashley and I are working to dissolve our marriage. Divorce is a personal and private matter and I hope our privacy will be respected.” (WDAF FOX4 Kansas City)
