Iredell County's Coronavirus Death Toll Increases To 33
At least 42 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths have been confirmed in Iredell since Tuesday, county health officials said Thursday.
IREDELL COUNTY, NC — At least three Iredell County residents have died from coronavirus-related illness since Tuesday, according to Iredell County Health Department data released Thursday afternoon.
As of Sept. 10, at least 33 Iredell County residents had died from coronavirus-related illness.
The news comes as the number of known coronavirus cases in Iredell County rose to 2,766, an increase of 42 cases confirmed in the county during a two-day span.

Iredell County Health Department said that 21 county residents remained hospitalized for COVID-19 illness Thursday. Out of the total tally of known cases in the county, 333 residents remained isolated in their homes and an estimated 2,379 cases were assumed recovered.
North Carolina reported 180,754 confirmed coronavirus cases in the state Thursday, which included 1,222 newly confirmed cases, according to data released by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. North Carolina is in the "red zone" when it comes to its number of coronavirus cases, a rate that is 18th highest in the U.S., according to a recent report from the White House Coronavirus Task Force.

Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases have been confirmed as of 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10:
North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 and 28678)
- 576 cases (up from 555 cases reported Sept. 4)
Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)
- 1,149 cases (up from 1,104 cases reported Sept. 4)
South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)
- 1,041 cases (up from 1,004 cases reported Sept. 4)
Globally, nearly 28 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 905,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday afternoon. In the United States, more than 6.3 million people have been infected and more than 191,000 people have died from COVID-19.
