Iredell COVID-19: Hospitalizations Drop, 1 New Death Reported

MOORESVILLE, NC — Iredell County's number of known coronavirus cases rose to 1,342 cases Monday afternoon, an increase of 52 newly confirmed cases in the county since Friday, according to Iredell County Health Department data.

As of Monday afternoon, 25 people in Iredell County were listed as "currently hospitalized" with coronavirus-related illness, eight fewer than reported Friday afternoon. Over the weekend, however, one person lost their life to COVID-19, increasing the county's death toll to 14, ICHD said.

According to county health officials, 453 county residents who had tested positive were isolating in their homes Monday.

About 10 percent of all tests in Iredell County were positive as of Monday, and higher than the 7 percent positive rate for the entire state, according to North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

State public health officials said Monday that the spread of novel coronavirus had grown to 101,046 confirmed cases — 5,569 more cases than reported Friday. The state's COVID-19 death toll also increased to 1,642 Monday, an increase of eight lives lost to the virus in North Carolina since Sunday.

Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases have been confirmed as of 4 p.m. Monday, July 20:

North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 and 28678)

• 302 cases (up from 297 cases reported July 17)

Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)

• 535 cases (up from 505 cases reported July 17)

South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)

• 505 cases (up from 488 cases reported July 17)

The county's COVID-19 case tally as of July 17 included an estimated 850 cases that were assumed recovered, ICHD said.

Two Iredell County nursing home facilities have reported COVID-19 outbreaks, according to DHHS. Maple Leaf Health Care, located at `1101 Maple Care Lane in Statesville reported two residents had tested positive. The Citadel, located at 555 Glenwood Drive in Mooresville, also reported a staff member and a resident were confirmed positive, according to the most recent DHHS report detailing ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks at state facilities.

At least 92 COVID-19 cases in North Carolina are associated with either a school or a child care center, DHHS said Monday. School principals and child care center operators are required to report suspected coronavirus cases to public health officials. "In a child care or school setting, a COVID-19 cluster is defined as a minimum of five laboratory-confirmed cases will illness onsets or initial positive results within a 14-day period and plausible epidemiologic linkage between cases," DHHS said.

One of the 10 child care centers on the current cluster list is in Iredell County: The Primrose School of Lake Norman, where three staff members and two children have tested positive, according to a July 17 account by DHHS.
