Iredell's COVID-19 Deaths At 25 As Case Counts Continue To Rise
New COVID-19 deaths were reported in the county this week, and at least 119 cases confirmed within a three-day span.
MOORESVILLE, NC — The number of known coronavirus cases in Iredell County rose to 2,483 Thursday, an increase of 119 cases confirmed in the county since Monday afternoon, according to Iredell County Health Department.
As of Thursday afternoon, 25 Iredell County residents had lost their lives to coronavirus-related illness. Throughout the U.S., nearly 180,000 deaths were coronavirus related, Johns Hopkins University said Aug. 27.
Iredell County Health Department said 14 county residents remained hospitalized for COVID-19 illness. Out of the total tally of known cases in the county, 459 residents remained isolated in their homes Thursday and an estimated 1,985 cases were assumed recovered.

Throughout the state, North Carolina reported 161,076 confirmed coronavirus cases Thursday, including 2,091 newly confirmed cases reported Aug. 27, according to data released by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Thursday marked the largest one-day jump in known cases in the state so far this month.

Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases have been confirmed as of 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27:
North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 and 28678)
- 530 cases (up from 486 cases reported Aug. 21)
Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)
- 1,012 cases (up from 933 cases reported Aug. 21)
South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)
- 941 cases (up from 881 cases reported Aug. 21)
Globally, more than 24 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 826,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins said Thursday.
