Here are the top three stories today in Mooresville:

  1. The NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville has two reasons to celebrate! Number one, it has been recognized as the“Best Place to Work” (over 50 employees) in Iredell County! Number two, it will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in July. The Institute opened in 2002 and has since expanded its program offerings to include not only automotive motorsport technical training but also CNC Machining and Welding Technology. (Speedway Digest)
  2. Shoplifters at a Tractor Supply led Mooresville Police on a police chase Tuesday afternoon. The chase ended in a collision with three other vehicles. Four suspects fled on foot following the accident and were apprehended shortly after. They were taken to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Christopher Mark Beeler, 47, was charged with felony conspiracy, felony larcenyband was served with an outstanding warrant for absconding probation. Lionel Jay Thomas, 53, was charged with felony conspiracy, felony larceny, habitual larceny, resist, delay, or obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and was served with eight outstanding warrants for arrest. Kandy Michelle Poole, 49, was charged with felony flee to elude, felony conspiracy, felony larceny, resist, delay, or obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and several other traffic-related charges. The fourth suspect was not charged. (WBTV)
  3. NASCAR driver Harrison Burton learned about the school's Ford FACT program, when he became a "student for a day" at the NASCAR Technical Institute. The advanced training program for automotive technicians taught Burton, who is currently 28th in the Cup Series, a little more about the technology of the cars. He currently drives the No. 21 car for Wood Brothers Racing Ford. The day was part of a Ford initiative to help the company recruit more certified automotive technicians. (WCNC.com)
