- In an extra effort to help keep Mooresville stay safe, the Mooresville Police Department is offering a Home Security Check program for Mooresville residents going on vacation this summer season. The program is intended to be supplemental to primary home security arrangements. The way it works is that while you are away, MPD will check your residence on a random basis, looking for signs of suspicious activity, such as open doors, open or broken windows, unfamiliar cars or other suspicious conditions. Situations discovered that need immediate attention will be addressed by the police. House checks cannot exceed 14 days and must be submitted to the Mooresville Police Department at least ten days in advance. All homes must be inside town limits. (Facebook)
- Mooresville resident Gabe Barajas has spent the last year paddleboarding up to eight hours a day in preparation for an 80-mile, 15-hour paddle from Bimini Island, Bahamas to Lake Worth Beach, FL to raise money for The Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis. Barajas is a retired NASCAR mechanic and pit crew member. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps. The race will take place June 22-26. (Spectrum News)
- According to an article published in the Mooresville Tribune, a Republican measure supporters say would empower North Carolina parents to better monitor their children's public school education, would bar K-3 class curriculum from addressing LGBTQ issues. It would subject health care providers to disciplinary action by licensing boards should they fail to receive parental consent for non-urgent medical treatments for a minor child, including fines of up to $5,000. The measure, which is being called, “Parents’ Bill of Rights” received approval Wednesday from a state Senate committee. The measure next goes to another Senate committee. According to the article, House Speaker Tim Moore, whose chamber would receive the bill if it passes the Senate, said Wednesday he had not yet read the bill but believed “parents have a right to know what's happening. There needs to be transparency.” (Mooresville Tribune)
