  1. Do you know the school bus law in North Carolina? Now that school has begun the big yellow school buses are out and about and there are consequences if you don't follow the law around these vehicles. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "North Carolina law states:
When a school bus is displaying its mechanical stop signal or flashing red lights and the bus is stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging passengers, the driver of any other vehicle that approaches the school bus from any direction in the same street, highway, or public vehicular area shall bring that other vehicle to a full stop and shall remain stopped. The driver of the other vehicle shall not proceed to move, pass, or attempt to pass the school bus until after the mechanical stop signal has been withdrawn, the flashing red stoplights have been turned off, and the bus has started to move. (N.C.G.S. 20-217(a)).The statute goes on to say that a school bus includes: a public school bus transporting children or school personnel; a public school bus transporting senior citizens (as authorized by law under an agreement to use school buses to provide transportation for the elderly); or a privately owned bus transporting children. The statute says that this section applies only if the school bus has a plainly visible sign with the words “school bus” on the front and rear. (N.C.G.S. 20-217(b))." (Mooresville Tribune)

  3. The Mooresville Police Department highlights Corporal Aaron Moore, who believes in being a servant leader. According to a MPD facebook post, "Moore, in all aspects of his life, strives to serve others with compassion and respect. “My recognition of the joy you can get from serving others began as a youth,” shared Corporal Moore. “I participated as a Boy Scout and worked hard to set high standards. I earned the Eagle scout rank at the age of 13, way back in 1984.” Corporal Moore continued in Scouting as a member of the Order of the Arrow. Corporal Moore served in the United States Army as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division (C co. 2/505 PIR). Although he enlisted as an Infantryman, he quickly moved through my company’s communications section. He was eventually given the responsibility of running the company's communications shop.“Throughout the years, I’ve come to recognizing the importance of talking to someone who is trusted,” shared Corporal Moore. “It is now my personal mission to be there as a listening ear when someone needs it. I see the importance of being able to identify when someone may be struggling emotionally and take the steps necessary to let them know someone cares.”Thank you for all you do to serve our community, Corporal Moore! MPD is lucky to have you on the force!" (Mooresville Police Department via Facebook)
