South Iredell Student Selected For NC Governor's Page Program

South Iredell High junior Molly Smyth recently participated in the week-long NC Governor's Page Program, school officials said.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — South Iredell High junior Molly Smyth was recently selected for the North Carolina Governor's Page Program, Iredell-Statesville Schools announced Wednesday.

The week-long page program, which began in 1973, offers high school students from around the state an opportunity to experience hands-on participation in state government, ISS said. This year, however, the program will be held virtually over four days.

"Even though it was virtual it was been very engaging and fun," Smyth said in a statement. "I met many different people from all over North Carolina that all have about the same interest as me, so that has been another amazing part of this opportunity."

The experience allowed Smyth to explore career interests related to her future goal of a career in government, she said.

"I have enjoyed being able to converse with government officials representing the areas of Health and Human Services, Public Instruction, and the Judicial system including an NC Supreme Court Judge," Smyth said.
