Here are the top three stories today in Mooresville:

  1. Reportedly, Iredell County Veterans Service Manager Tim Moore came up with the idea of Pets for Vets — Who Rescued Who? He was at Richard’s Coffee Shop on Thursday to tell the veterans gathered for the weekly coffee get-together about the program that is aimed at providing companionship for veterans and helping place homeless pets in loving homes. According to the Mooresville Tribune article, "To get Pets for Vets off the ground, Moore coordinated with Iredell County Animal Services in offering reduced or no adoption fees for veterans to encourage them to consider a shelter pet and Teresa Smith with Safe Harbor Skippers Landing Marina, coordinated a fundraiser to provide some seed money for adoption fees. For more information or to help with Pets for Vets contact Moore at timothy.moore@co.iredell.nc.us or Dixon at tracy.dixon@co.iredell.nc.us." (Mooresville Tribune)
  2. Are you a hunter? Then mark your calendar for August 9 and August 11 because the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and the N.C. Wildlife Federation will offer two free online hunting-related webinars; “Introduction to Deer Hunting” will be held on Aug. 9, and “Practical Deer Processing: From Field to Freezer” will be held on Aug. 11. Both classes will run from 7 – 8 p.m. and are open to anyone interested. Both webinars are intended to assist novice hunters for the upcoming white-tailed deer season, which opens September 10th. Each session will be followed by a question and answer session led by agency staff and volunteers. Pre-registration for the webinars is required at ncwildlife.org/sbs." (NC Wildlife.org)
  3. According to the Iredell Free News, "Matthew Littlejohn has been promoted to network chief executive officer of Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville and Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville, effective July 25. Littlejohn was promoted from network COO, a position he has held at the hospitals since January 2021. Since joining the administrative team at Davis and Lake Norman, Littlejohn has recruited multiple primary care providers and physician specialists and has expanded capacity and occupancy of behavioral health services to better meet the needs of adult and geriatric patients. He has managed daily operations to more effectively provide quality care to the patients served by the hospitals, and he has additionally worked to expand access points and presence in the community. He earned a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in business administration from the University of South Carolina in Columbia." Congratulations Matthew! (Iredell Free News)

She was just pulled from the shelter and is recovering from a broken jaw. She’s about 17 pounds and very timid so please don’t chase. There is a reward for finding her. She’s been missing since July 15 at 4:45pm." (Nextdoor)
  • Nextdoor Neighbor, Curtis Pond: "She showed up at our front door. Very sweet has a chip is not registered." (Nextdoor)
