Here are the top three stories today in Mooresville:
- Reportedly, after a chase through three counties, a tractor-trailer truck hit a tire deflation device at mile marker 39 near Mooresville in an effort to stop the pursuit, according to a press release. The tractor-trailer struck the device, made a sharp turn and collided with two patrol cars parked on the shoulder, the release said. The tractor-trailer then overturned and blocked the northbound lanes (of I-77), the release said. The troopers were not injured in the collision, the release said. According to the Charlotte Observer, "the driver of the tractor-trailer was the suspect in multiple hit-and-run vehicle collisions in Gaston County. Troopers attempted to stop 63-year-old Monte Keith Gore in Mecklenburg County, according to a highway patrol news release. - North Carolina is one of the states in which President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness plan, could be taxed. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "some states tax forgiven debt as income, which means borrowers who are still paying down student loans could owe taxes on as much as $10,000 or even $20,000 that was taken off their bill. In Mississippi, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arkansas and North Carolina, forgiven student loans will be subject to state income taxes unless they change their laws to conform with a federal tax exemption for student loans, according to a tally by the Tax Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank."
