Here are the top stories today in Mooresville:

  1. Kaitlyn Dorroh a rising junior at Langtree Charter in Mooresville is also officially a published author. The teen has wanted to write a book ever since second grade and now her dream has come true. The name of the book is, "Adam’s Cape: The Missing Crew." According to a Mooresville Tribune article, "not only does the new book let Dorroh fulfill her dream of becoming an author, it also allows her to immortalize her cousin and his family through the Adam’s Cape Medical Fund, which was started by Dorroh’s aunt to honor both her son, Adam, and her husband who were killed in a car accident in 2006. The accident also left her other son, Connor, with an incomplete spinal cord injury and years of recovery and medical treatments. The medical fund was established to help families cope with the sometimes extreme costs of medical bills for children in crisis. “Adam’s Cape: The Missing Crew” can currently be purchased locally at Main Street Books in Davidson and at Paige Turner Books and Boutique in Mooresville. It can also be purchased online at www.headlinebooks.com. (Mooresville Tribune)
  2. Mooresville High School has selected Jessica Clark to represent MHS as its Teacher of the Year. Clark teaches Family and Consumer Sciences in the Career and Technical Education department at MHS. Her ability to reach and teach every child, every day successfully reportedly makes her stand out as an exceptional teacher. According to a write-up about her on Parent Square," her classroom is a place where students know that there is an adult that genuinely cares about them, that will advocate for them when needed, and will feed them when they are hungry. The relationships that she builds with her students are at the core of everything she does in her classroom. She works to create lessons that will engage every student and create an environment where students feel loved, respected, valued, and important. She doesn't look at teaching as a profession, but her identity. While Clark says that whether she is in a classroom or not, she will always be a teacher, MGSD is grateful that she is in their classrooms!"(Parent Square)
  3. It's tough out there with higher-priced food items, inflation and increased gas prices. All of these costs are trickling down making it increasingly difficult for families who were already struggling to get by. In an effort to make a positive difference, according to WCNC.com, "FeedNC, a nonprofit based in Mooresville, is helping families in Cabarrus, Iredell, Mecklenburg and Rowan counties by feeding thousands of people. The nonprofit offers groceries and job training for families facing food insecurity. FeedNC officials say they're seeing as many as 40 new families applying for services each month. Anyone who walks through the doors gets about $200 in groceries for free once a week. Those savings can then help struggling families afford other necessities." (WCNC.com)
