West Virginia Teen Charged In Iredell County Burglaries

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — A West Virginia teen was arrested and charged following two recent burglaries of homes in a lakefront neighborhood near Lake Norman State Park, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

According to a report, one of the victims reported "a burglary in progress" in a home on East Tattersall Drive to the sheriff's office around 5 a.m. July 9.

"When the responding deputies arrived, they were told someone had entered the residence and
had taken a wallet, hat, and two laptop computers," ICSO said. Investigators canvassing the neighborhood located a second victim on the street who reported a stolen laptop from their home, as well.

Following interviews with witnesses and gathering evidence, detectives identified Colton Shane Wright, 19 and of Beckley, West Virginia, as the suspect in the case.

"Colton Wright was located in the area, and led detectives to the stolen property," ICSO said. The property, which was estimated to be valued around $6,500, was recovered and returned to the owners.

Wright was arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he
was charged with three counts of felony first-degree burglary, and two counts of felony
larceny.
