Here are the top three stories today in Mooresville:

  1. Willow Valley Cemetery, one of the oldest burial sites in Mooresville, is beginning to show its age. With help from Atlas Preservation company and their “48 State Tour,” the town of Mooresville and its citizens have taken action to preserve the integrity of the Willow Valley Cemetery and restore its grandeur. Reportedly, just under 40 citizens turned out on May 25, eager to learn from Atlas Preservation company the proper cleaning, restoration, and repair techniques to help the town maintain the gravesites at the cemetery, some of which date back as far as 1855. Reportedly, Willow Valley was selected as the “48 State Tour’s” lone stop in North Carolina. (Mooresville Tribune)
  2. Brooke Holland has received the $500 Mooresville-South Iredell AARP Scholarship. The Mooresville-South Iredell Chapter 3224 of AARP gives a scholarship annually to a student who is attending an institution of higher learning. Each year, the scholarship rotates between a student at Mooresville High School and South Iredell High School. Holland will be reportedly attending UNC Chapel Hill and will pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Ultimately, she plans to complete her master’s in nursing and become licensed as a nurse practitioner and establish her own practice. (Statesville Record & Landmark)
