• ‘A labor of love': A Triangle restaurant serves up deals to help save other businesses (wral.com) — Downtown Raleigh’s restaurant scene is shrinking as rising costs and weaker foot traffic force longtime spots to close, but one dessert shop is fighting back. Simons Says Dip This, which expanded from Durham to downtown Raleigh, is offering 20% discounts to customers who show receipts from locally owned restaurants, hoping to keep more small businesses alive through a tough economy.
   

• Raleigh Convention Center reopens for the first time since December fire (wral.com) — Raleigh Convention Center is reopening Monday for the first time since a December fire, restoring a key venue for downtown events. Operations resume immediately, with a major volleyball tournament set for next weekend and previously displaced events, like Animate! Raleigh, now rescheduled. Damage from the fire was estimated at $2 million.
