Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:

  1. Ballistic gear is on its way to Wake County EMS. They will receive 475 bulletproof helmets and vests. According to WRAL News, "The county budgeted a little bit less than $1 million for the new gear out of its $1.8 billion budget." Keeping first responders safe is paramount. (WRAL News)
  2. In Summer 2025 the three-and-a-half acres of land on Lake Wheeler Road, across from Dorothea Dix Park, will look drastically different. The vacant land, will be home to a $700 million development, complete with hundreds of apartments, restaurants and retail spaces. Stay tuned! (CBS17.com)
  3. Due to smoke wafting over the state from the Canadian wildfires, there was a Code Red air quality alert to North Carolina on Wednesday, which means that the air was unhealthy. Outdoor camps and athletic events were canceled. Later in the day, the air quality was downgraded to Code Orange, which means it is suboptimal for older adults, young children and individuals with respiratory conditions. Stay safe today and take precautions if you need to. (WTVD-TV)
