They argue he suffered a severe brain injury, wasn’t Mirandized, and was often confused about where he was while under constant surveillance after the incident.

• ‘Standard-bearers:' DMV welcomes its largest class of new front-line workers (newsobserver.com) — New DMV examiners are now staffing offices statewide, including Raleigh East, as part of North Carolina’s largest-ever class of 149 new front-line workers. With 64 new positions funded by lawmakers and expanded online renewals, officials hope to cut long lines and improve customer service, though they say more staffing improvements are still needed.

• North Carolina joins nationwide settlement with Hyundai, Kia over car theft surge (abc11.com) — North Carolina’s attorney general in Raleigh has joined a 35-state settlement requiring Hyundai and Kia to fix millions of easily stolen vehicles and compensate some victims. If you own an affected model, you’ll be eligible for a free anti-theft repair at dealerships starting in early 2026, with one year to get the work done once you’re notified.
