π± City Hosts Meet-Up Discussing Violence + Active Shooter Safety Tips

- Earlier this week, the City of Wilmington hosted a meet-up with several groups in the community to speak about ways to prevent violence in the community. The city invited Port City United to serve as a guest speaker for the meeting that occurred at the Davis Center in Maides Park. The discussion was primarily centered around the need for collaboration in the community to serve as a united front against violence. (WWAY NewsChannel 3)
- Patrick Kyle Tedford was arrested and charged Monday after he allegedly assaulted a police officer following a wreck. According to the Wilmington Police Department, an officer responded to the 1100 block of Military Cutoff Road and checked out Tedford's ID, it was reported that Tedford walked up to the police vehicle took his ID back from the officer, and headed back to his vehicle. Tedford was accused of assaulting the officer when he attempted to stop him from leaving the scene, the officer tased him after a short struggle and then arrested Tedford. He was taken to the hospital after claiming to have suffered injuries from the scuffle, the officer was unharmed. (WECT)
- In response to the shooting that happened at Independence Mall last weekend, security expert Patrick Fiel gave a few tips on how to be safer in these situations. It is important to keep a cool head as this can happen anywhere now, avoid conflicts when possible, and follow the steps of run, hide, and fight if you are in or near a situation. Remaining vigilant and aware of your setting is important here as mindfulness can save lives. (WECT)

- The Wilmington Fire Department kept busy to start the summer in June. Responding to 66 fires, seven ROSC or return of spontaneous circulation, performing eight extractions, and logging in just about 4,000 hours of training, the fire department has had its hands full. - You can join a free Zoom meeting on Monday, Jul. 24 at 4:30 p.m. to learn about MyChart, an electric health-record portal. This service will hold all of your medical records digitally so you can easily communicate with health providers without struggling to find information.
