🌱 Fire At Historic Wilmington Building + New CAM Art Exhibit

  1. On Wednesday night, firefighters rushed to Graystone Bed and Breakfast after receiving news of a fire. The historic building caught fire around 10:30 p.m. and the building was evacuated. As of Thursday morning, three firefighters had been injured and the scene was finally clear at 9:00 a.m. On Graystone's website, they posted a statement saying that the restaurant would be reopening soon.   2. For those interested in art, the Cameron Art Museum (CAM) has an exciting new exhibition opening on Jun. 22. The exhibition is called "Love" and will explore representations of love through contemporary art. There will be a celebration for the exhibition's debut and for Pride Month on Jun. 25 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tickets for the exhibition and for the celebration can be found at the CAM website.   3. This weekend, New Hanover County NCWorks will host a multi-employer job fair. Employers from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Brunswick Community College, and others will be in attendance searching for candidates for positions such as case managers, career navigators, laborers, and more. The job fair will take place on Jun. 20 starting at 10:00 a.m. (WECT)

  • This week, the Wilmington Fire Department will host JPAT Training. The test course is located at the safety training center at Cape Fear Community College. There are no official sign-up sheets or schedules. The fire department requests that those interested in the training show up at the check-in times outlined here.   • Wilmington residents may notice a lot more traffic than usual! Starting next week, several road closures may impact your drive. The closures are to help prepare for a large track replacement project being completed in November. See the list here of all railroad crossings affected by the closures.   • If you're looking for a low-pressure situation to meet new friends, Speed Friending might be for you! The New Hanover County Public Library at Pine Valley will host a speed friending event for adults over the age of 20 on Jun. 28 at 6:00 p.m. This is perfect for recent grads, people new to town, or those looking to expand their social circles!
