  1. Wilmington Police Department has chosen former Captain Kelvin Hargrove will be the department's next Deputy Chief following the pending retirement of Assistant Chief David Oyler. Deputy Chief Hargrove has been a part of the police for more than 30 years in various different departments. In his new role, the deputy chief plans to continue his commitment to the community and work to enhance engagement with them while supervising professional standards and public information.   2. A fire occurred in Wilmington Wednesday morning on Wickslow Road and the Wilmington Fire Department quickly responded. By the time firefighters responded to the scene all building occupants already had escaped the building and firefighters were able to rescue a cat that was in the building, no injuries have been reported at this time. The blaze occurred at the Preserve at Pine Valley apartment complex and has left two families without a home and they are currently being assisted by the American Red Cross. (WWAY NewsChannel 3)
  3. It has been announced that Cape Fear Community College will now be offering a new associate degree with a mental health concentration as part of its Human Services Technology program. The coursework provided with this program will include the history of mental health, current trends in the world today, and different models that can be applied in the workforce. From now to August there will be three information sessions for those who may be interested in the program to learn more and ask questions. You can also visit the website for more information.
