Here are the top three stories in Winston-Salem today:

  1. Around 3:48 a.m. Sunday morning, Winston-Salem police responded to a shooting at Winston Square Park on North Marshall Street. Elvis Barrios, 24, was found at the scene with a gunshot wound to the hand; he was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was expected to recover. The case is still in its early stages of investigation; however, it appears this was an isolated incident. (WXII12 Winston-Salem)
  2. Winston-Salem longtime resident Lessie Mann celebrated her 103 birthday on Mar. 11. When asked about her secret to long life, Mann simply replied, "everything in moderation." Lessie is an avid bridge player and actively participates in family games and card nights when possible. Living such a long life surrounded by children, grandchildren, and family who love her, Mann would not change a thing in her 103 years of living. (WXII12 Winston-Salem)
  3. The Forsyth County Drug Task Force completed a drug bust worth nearly $1 million dollars worth of drugs seized. On Wednesday, a traffic stop in Greensboro led to a large seizure of U.S. currency, prompting detectives to apply for a search warrant in the 1900 block of Althea Street. Julio Miguel Roman was charged with trafficking various drugs and maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance; he is currently being held at Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center on a $1 million bond. Between the traffic stop and the search warrant, detectives seized $75,150 USD, 8.5 kgs of cocaine, 171 grams of fentanyl pills, 10 pounds of marijuana, and four firearms. (CBS17.com)
