Here are the top three stories in Winston-Salem today:

  1. A little bit of Texas-style barbeque is making its way to Winston-Salem; Claire Calvin recently opened her restaurant East of Texas on South Broad Street, bringing her Houston roots to the city. Mainly focusing on Texas-style barbeque, the new restaurant offers slow-cooked brisket prepared by a smoker. The new restaurant is Calvin's third restaurant to offer Texas cuisine; she also runs The Porch and Alma Mexicana. (WGHP FOX8 Greensboro)
  2. Winston-Salem's Trinity Moravian Church continues to give back to the community by forgiving almost $3.3 million dollars in medical debt for thousands of local families. The church, which is located off Sprague Street, said it has a deep commitment to ministry and community service, and this deed is part of its debt jubilee project. The debt forgiveness assisted a total of 3,355 families who live mostly in Davidson County with some who live in Davie and Yadkin counties, and the church plans to expand next into Surry and Stokes counties. (WXII12 Winston-Salem)
  3. The Winston-Salem Fire Department responded to a call over the weekend about a house fire on Horace Mann Ave. No injuries were reported, but the fire left five people without a place to live. Officials are currently investigating to determine the cause. (WFMYNews2.com)
