Here are the top three stories today in Winston-Salem:
- Winston-Salem police are investigating a fatal single-car crash that killed Tyrika McClain on Union Cross Road on Wednesday at approximately 10:37 p.m. According to police, McClain was driving east when her vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a tree. Officials are unsure why the car went off the road. Forsyth County EMS reported McClain dead on the scene. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them. - A man is hospitalized in critical condition after a shooting that occurred on Wednesday night on South Main Street in Winston-Salem. Police received a call at 6:45 p.m. reporting the incident and found the victim shot when they arrived at the scene. The shooting was determined to have taken place at the intersection of Cassell and Champlain streets. There is currently no information on a suspect. (WXII12 Winston-Salem)
- An inmate in Forsyth County was assaulted by another inmate with a makeshift weapon on Feb. 27. The victim was wounded 12 times and taken to the hospital. The suspect, Omar Riossanchez Sanchez, faces charges of felony assault and possession of a dangerous weapon in prison. He was given a $100,000 secured bond and remains in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center. (WGHP FOX8 Greensboro)
