- All Forsyth Tech campuses are closed for the remainder of the week following reports of an on-campus shooting on the morning of Thursday, Mar. 30. Students were released from lockdown after law enforcement confirmed there was no active shooter present at the school and no credible threats to other schools in the area. There were community college tour groups on-campus at the time of the shooting, but the tour group students' schools have confirmed everyone is safe and accounted for. Winston-Salem Police are currently investigating, and Forsyth Tech spokesperson Devin Purgason has shared that there are presently two suspects in the incident. (WRAL News)
- Nearby Lewisville outfit The Stocked Pot and local area Braswell Family Farms in Nashville, NC, are collaborating to dye and boil thousands of eggs for the upcoming White House Easter Egg Roll. Braswell Family Farms shared that they've been donating eggs yearly to the White House Egg Roll since 1997; this year, the facilitators, the American Egg Board, invited the Braswell Family organization to dye the eggs, too. John Watson, vice president of marketing and sales for the farm, agreed to the job and later forgot, setting the stage for the almost-last-minute team-up with The Stocked Pot. By the time the Egg Roll comes around, The Stocked Pot and Braswell Family Farms will have boiled, dyed, and shipped 30,000 eggs or more! (Winston-Salem Journal)
- Piedmont Wind Symphony will be putting on a Sousa Band-style performance for "Sousa! A Tribute to John Phillip Sousa & His Band." The period piece spectacle will consist of patriotic classics like "Stars and Stripes Forever," "Semper Fidelis," and "The Washington Post," alongside more theatrical numbers like "The Overture to William Tell." The Wind Symphony will be decked out in period-accurate garb and perform at venues done up in the style of the time beginning Saturday, Apr. 22, at the Wait Chapel on the Wake Forest University campus. The Piedmont Wind Symphony was founded over 30 years ago and has since become a national staple, all thanks to funding by the Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County, and generous support from corporate donors, patrons, and the general public.
