Hyundai, Kia settlement: Free anti-theft upgrades for ND, MN owners (valleynewslive.com) — Fargo-area Hyundai and Kia owners can now get free anti-theft hardware installed under a new multistate settlement, with eligibility running through March 31, 2027. The deal also offers potential compensation for recent theft-related losses and requires the automakers to add stronger security to future U.S. models, giving North Dakota and Minnesota drivers clearer options to protect their vehicles.
   

2. TSA to charge $45 fee for travelers without Real ID starting February 1 (valleynewslive.com) — If you’re flying out of Fargo without a Real ID or passport after February 1, you’ll be hit with a new $45 TSA identity verification fee that only lasts 10 days. Travelers at Hector International Airport are already reacting, and officials urge residents to visit the DMV soon with required documents so they can avoid extra costs and longer security lines.
   

3. North Dakota attorney general voids ethics opinion, says agency lacked authority (kfgo.com) — A Fargo state senator’s questions about using campaign funds for child care and security have triggered a major ruling from North Dakota’s attorney general, who voided an Ethics Commission opinion as beyond its authority. The dispute now leaves candidates seeking clarity on what expenses are allowed, while state leaders debate how much power the Ethics Commission should have over election rules.
   

4. Rylee Seavert grabs 500th career rebound for Shanley girls in win over Fargo North (inforum.com) — Fargo hoops fans saw a milestone as Shanley’s Rylee Seavert grabbed her 500th career rebound and scored 19 points in a 66-52 home win over Fargo North. The Deacons, now 3-0, next face Fargo Davies on Friday in a top-five EDC showdown.
   

5. December 16: Baptist Preacher Comes to Wahpeton, Rumors Follow (prairiepublic.org) — More than a century ago, a New Jersey preacher briefly lived in Wahpeton while planning to file for divorce in Fargo under Dakota’s lenient residency rules. His case stirred gossip, highlighted the region’s reputation as a “divorce mill,” and showed how Fargo’s courts figured into controversial marital breakups at the time.
