📰 News we're reading

1. Fargo to charge monthly $50 fee if residents don't schedule installation for new water meters (inforum.com) — Fargo residents who don’t schedule a free installation of the new “city preferred” water meters will eventually face a $50 monthly fee, with an additional $30 monthly charge for those opting out of wireless readings. The city has already swapped out about 65% of meters and aims to finish by 2026, urging homeowners to book four-hour installation windows before final notices and fees kick in.

2. Mandatory mental health visits: Fargo Fire's new program helps stop the stigma (firerescue1.com) — Fargo firefighters now must attend an annual confidential mental health visit with trauma-trained counselors, part of a city-backed push to better support first responders. Launched in early 2023, the program aims to normalize counseling, catch problems early, and is funded through existing employee health dollars, with strong buy-in from Fargo Fire and Police leadership.

3. Fargo Collectors Restore Rare Snowmobile to Honor Racing Legend (valleynewslive.com) — In a Fargo garage, local collectors and former racers are painstakingly restoring a rare John Deere Liquidator snowmobile to honor racing legend Brian Nelson’s dramatic 1976 Winnipeg I-500 win. The months-long project, hosted by a Fargo collector, will culminate in a raffle benefiting the Snowmobile Hall of Fame, tying Fargo’s enthusiasts to a wider snowmobiling legacy.

4. New children's advocacy center in Williston (kfyrtv.com) — Fargo is one of just four fully operational children’s advocacy centers in North Dakota, now joined by a new site in Williston. The ConnectUs Children’s Advocacy Center expands statewide support for child abuse victims, complementing services already available in Fargo, Minot, and Bismarck and helping more families access trauma-informed interviews and healing resources.
