CINCINNATI — Posters and flyers circulated through the north side of Cincinnati for the better part of a week seeking to help find Gertie, a local family’s beloved dog who got lost.

After five days, Gertie was found. She was trapped in between two concrete walls.

Rescuers from the Cincinnati Fire Department drilled an opening in the wall, allowing Gertie to climb through. The fire department shared a video of the dog being rescued from a wall on its Facebook page.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 1600 block of Thompson Heights Avenue around 9:40 a.m. Sunday when someone heard a dog crying from behind a garage wall, according to a FOX-19 report.

Gertie had fallen down a crevice and was trapped between two concrete walls. Fire crews had to use saws and a sledgehammer to get her out.

Connie Frick, one of Gertie’s owners, said the dog escaped last Tuesday and “went right into the woods,” in an interview with FOX-19.

Vanessa Roland, Frick’s neighbor, made the call to the fire department. Frick told FOX-19 she thinks Gertie fell through the roof of Roland’s garage.

Gertie is a little tired from the ordeal, Frick said, but doing well otherwise.

“We’re just very happy and lucky and very grateful to our neighbors,” she added.
