WEST CHESTER, OH — The staff and volunteers at the Peaches Bully Rescue went above and beyond to prep Jack, a nine-month-old American bully, for his new family to meet him at the southwestern Ohio shelter a little over a week ago. The puppy was cleaned, had a fancy new harness on and even a fresh diaper.

So they were more than a little disappointed when the would-be adopters never showed up in West Chester, and learned that finding Jack a forever home would take some more time.

"Your family will come sweet boy and when they do, they will be perfect," the shelter wrote on its Facebook page.

Jack suffers from spina bifida, according to a FOX-19 Cincinnati report. The spinal cord ailment occurs during pregnancy and "markedly affects the quality of a dog's life," Dr. Beverly Sturges, a professor at the University of California-Davis, said in a research paper.

"They have difficulties walking, or cannot walk at all, and are incontinent, predisposing them to repeated skin and urinary tract infections," according to Sturges.

Since their Facebook post about Jack, the shelter has seen an outpouring of support — and people wanting to bring Jack into their own families — from all over the world.

In just a few days, the shelter said it has received more than 600 inquiries on Jack, and about 200 applications for people looking to adopt him. Donations have poured in too, the shelter said.

What's next is finding the perfect match for Jack.

"We are working through Jack’s applications and will keep everyone updated," the shelter wrote in an update.

"Our volunteer team is working hard to respond to every application, email and message so please be patient. We hope to have Jack meeting families very soon and will update when we find his peeps over the next weeks."
