‘Stepping Up’: Ohio Officer Helps Baby After Mother’s Arrest

An Ohio police officer helped look after a baby in Springdale after her mother was arrested on drug offenses.

SPRINGDALE, OH — An Ohio police officer came to the aid of a baby girl Monday after the child’s mother was arrested on several drug charges.

The mother was high on drugs when Springdale police said they found the baby with “no food, no clothes, no diaper, no chance.” Chief Thomas Wells wrote on Facebook that one of his officers, Cpl. Kellen Lyons, took it upon himself to buy supplies for the child using his own money.

“This is what police do every day, stepping up and making a difference,” Wells wrote. “I’m proud of you, Kellen, and of all of our employees. Every single one would have done the same.”
