Wallaby On The Loose In Small Ohio Town

BREWSTER, OH — A wallaby has found itself far from Australia and is instead hopping around a small town in northeast Ohio.
Brewster police have received several calls about the animal in the village and its surrounding areas, and confirmed the wallaby’s presence Sunday in a news release.
“Never in my 25 years have I run into this,” Chief Nathan Taylor told WOIO.

According to National Geographic, wallabies are considered part of the kangaroo clan and are found mainly in Australia.
Brewster area residents who see the animal should contact local law enforcement but should not approach it, police said. A professional team has agreed to come to Brewster to help capture the wallaby and move it somewhere safe.

“We ask people to refrain from looking for the animal or entering onto properties of another to attempt to locate the animal,” the news release said.
