Nuisance Wildlife Increasing ~ Rose Pest Solutions Responds By Adding Services
Environmental and lifestyle changes have increased nuisance wildlife where people live. Rose Pest Solutions adds wildlife capture as service

Rose Pest Solutions, the nation’s oldest pest management company with offices throughout Indiana, Michigan and Ohio, now offers wildlife capture services in addition to its residential and commercial services.
As weather cools, many nuisance animals seek shelter and warmth. When that shelter is your home, however, the consequences can be hazardous. For example:
- Groundhogs and chipmunks can damage foundations in the colder months, as they dig burrows closer to the home for extra warmth.
- Bat and squirrel droppings in and around the home can cause health hazards like allergies & breathing issues.
- Squirrels chewing on electrical wiring can cause fires
- Raccoons can destroy trees and yards
- Possums are very territorial and may attack small children and pets
- All wild animals may carry contagious diseases
The new service is in response to the increased demand from homeowners. As more people expand their homes into rural areas – wildlife’s natural habitat – animals have become used to people. “Wildlife is almost domesticated,” Dale Hodgson, regional technical manager, from Rose’s Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio offices. “We are finding raccoons in the inner cities as there is no dividing line anymore between rural and urban areas. Urban nuisance wildlife has become a more common problem.”

But, Hodgson warns, it is a mistake to think of them of as anything other than wild animals. “It takes expertise to properly bait, trap and handle these animals; their bites or scratches can be dangerous and transmit diseases.”
Legally, a homeowner can trap animals themselves. Hodgson says, but without the right expertise, the results can be counterproductive. One of the most common problems from DIY trapping is not using the correct bait and trapping a neighbor’s pet instead. “You need the right trap, right bait and right spot,” says Hodgson.

The hardest animal to trap? Those that were caught by a homeowner and either escaped or were released too close to the home (they come right back). “Those animals develop a shyness. They understand the traps are a danger and they now avoid them.”
