AI is now answering Akron police's non-emergency calls (cleveland.com) — If you call Akron police’s non-emergency line, you’ll now first reach “Ava,” an AI assistant that gathers details and forwards them to officers or a live dispatcher when needed. Emergency 911 calls still go to people, but the new system aims to free up dispatchers and has already been tested locally through the Summit Emergency Communications Center.
   

2. Akron Community Foundation awards more than $4.3 million in quarterly grants (akron.com) — Akron Community Foundation has awarded more than $4.3 million this quarter, including its largest-ever round of health and human services grants for local residents. Funding supports groups like International Institute of Akron, Akron Blind Center, Christ Child Society, the University of Akron, Akron Art Museum, and Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, bolstering services from refugee support to food assistance and downtown education spaces.
   

3. Akron man gets life sentence for 2023 murder of Ernestine Stallings (wkyc.com) — An Akron man has been sentenced to life in prison, with possible parole after 33 years, for the 2023 shooting death of Ernestine Stallings outside a Dollar Tree on West Market Street. Summit County prosecutors say investigators used camera footage and a later search of his Akron home, which uncovered drugs, firearms, and cash, to build the case.

Baby born prematurely in Akron comes home just in time for the holidays (fox8.com) — A Kentucky couple visiting Akron for a baby shower ended up welcoming their son Sixx nearly ten weeks early, relying on Akron General and Cleveland Clinic Children’s Level III NICU for his care. After 63 days in the NICU, he’s finally home for the holidays, now weighing almost 8 pounds and already living up to his rockstar-inspired name.
   

5. Akron Bengals 7U celebrate Florida trip despite falling short in national championship game (news5cleveland.com) — Akron neighbors packed Status Eight Elite Bar and Grille to celebrate the Akron Bengals 7U football team’s trip to the national championship in Florida and a new city proclamation naming Dec. 5 “Akron Bengals Youth Football Day.” Backed by a city grant and strong community fundraising, the team enjoyed a memorable run, and coaches say they’re already focused on winning it all next season.
