At least one of the stolen cars was left unlocked overnight, with the keys inside the car, according to Avon Lake Police reports. The thefts occurred at homes on Chatham Drive and Aqua Marine Boulevard.
Avon Lake police recently asked residents to develop a "9 p.m. routine" that includes ensuring their vehicles are properly locked overnight. The routine should include:
- Taking valuables out of cars and into homes.
- Locking all vehicles.
- Locking the house.
- Turning on an outside light.
"These simple steps can help prevent you from becoming a victim of property crimes. Thieves like an easy target - don't be one. Start making the 9 p.m. routine a habit," police said on social media.
